You will start the days with a vigorous and energizing Ashtanga yoga practice. After breakfast you are free to enjoy the surroundings, go for walks or simply relax in the ambience of beautiful Begnas Lake resort. In the afternoon you will explore yoga postures, technique and Philosophy.

During this retreat, you will have a unique nature and outdoor experience while deepening your understanding of Yoga as a spiritual journey. In the quiet and serene surroundings of Begnas Lake, you will get introduced to the counted vinyasa system of Asthanga Yoga, thats makes your practice focussed and clear - combined with Buddhist philosophy that brings about the insight and compassion of a spiritual hero.

Your Teacher

Ellen Johannesen, born in Norway, has been practicing Ashtanga and taught internationally for more than 20 years. She is a third series practitioner holding an authorization level II from Sharath Jois, Mysore. Since 2011 Ellen has lived in Kathmandu where she teaches classes, workshops and retreats while completing her MA in Buddhist Philosophy and Tibetan Language.

Day 1 | TRAVEL TO BEGNAS

0800hrs: We start the day with breakfast and a briefing at Karma Coffee in Patan. 1000hrs: We get into our vehicle to begin the six hour drive to Begnas Lake, near Pokhara. Upon arrival, we shall get our rooms and settle in. 1800hrs: Welcome dinner at Begnas, and a relaxed evening.

Day 2 | YOGA DAY

0800 - 1000 hrs: Morning meditation and Yoga 1000 hrs: Brunch 1200 - 1600 hrs: Free time to explore the resort and the lake. 1600 hrs - 1800 hrs: Yoga and Introduction to Buddhist Philosophy and practice I

Day 3 | YOGA DAY

0800 - 1000hrs: Morning meditation and Yoga. 1000hrs: Brunch 1200 - 1500hrs : Walk to the Permaculture farm of Surya Adhikari, who also practices Yoga daily. Surya is a nationally famous coffee farmer and permaculturist. 1600 - 1800hrs: Yoga and Introduction to Buddhist Philosophy and practice II

Day 4 | YOGA DAY

0800 - 1000hrs: Morning meditation and Yoga 1000hrs: Brunch 1200 - 1600hrs: Free time, Lake activities / hike optional. 1600 - 1800hrs: Yoga and Introduction to Buddhist Philosophy and practice III Evening Farewell Dinner.

GEAR LIST | What to bring on this Trek?

Think only safety. Safety from the rain, the cold, the heat and the altitude. So simply put the bare essentials would be

  • RAIN - a rain jacket and if required during monsoon, rainproof pants
  • COLD - layers of clothings - thermals, tee shirt, fleece, windstoppers and down. Sleeping bag and liner for the night
  • HEAT - Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
  • ALTITUDE - Water bottle, snacks and a great Attitude! The rest is all about building an itinerary thats going up slow!
